Winter Holiday Poems

December Celebrations
Helen H. Moore

Every year at just this time,
In cold and dark December,
Families around the world
All gather to remember,
With presents and with parties,
With feasting and with fun,
Customs and tradtions
for people old and young.
So every year, around the world
In all lands and nations,
People of all ages love
December celebrations!

Surprises
Jean Conder Soule

Surprises are round
Or long and tallish.
Surprises are square
Or flat and smallish.

Surprises are wrapped
With paper and bow,
And hidden in closets
Where secrets won't show.

Surprises are often
Good things to eat;
A get-well toy or
A brithday treat.

Surprises come
In such interesting sizes -
I LIKE
SURPRISES!

Now December's Here
Aileen Fisher

Everything is "secrets"
now December's here:
Secrets wrapped in tissue,
whispered in an ear,
Secrets big and bulky,
secrets small and slight,
in the strangest places,
hidden out of sight.
Packages that rattle,
packages that squeak...
Some say, "Do not open."
Some say, "Do not peek,"
Secrets, secrets, secrets,
with holidays coming near,
...except it is no secret
I wish that it were here.
