GENERAL INFORMATION FOR CLASS

Displacement: 9087 metric tons/design, 9875 metric tons/maximum
Length: 126.5 m. Beam: 19.6 m. Draught: 8 m.
Main Armament: Four 21 cm quick firing guns of 40 calibres length, arranged in two double turrets, one each fore and aft.

Tertiary Armaments:
Ten 15 cm quick firing guns of 40 calibres length in casemates and turrets. Twelve 88 mm quick firing guns of 35 calibres length. Four 45 mm torpedo tubes arranged one in bows, one each beam just abaft the forward turret, and one in stern on port side.
Armor: Armoured deck: 80mm aft/40mm middle/80mm forward with inclines armour of 80mm aft/50mm middle/80mm forward. Control tower: 30mm top/150mm forward face/ 20mm after part. Side armour: 0-80mm aft/100mm vital parts/80mm forward. Casemates: 100mm. Citadel armour: 100mm. Main turrets: 30mm tops/150mm fronts. Secondary turret armour: 100mm fronts/80mm shields.
Machinery: Fourteen Dürr boilers (Düsseldorf-Ratinger) feeding three vertical three cylinder triple expansion engines. Three propellers, one rudder on the amidships line. S.M.S. Prinz Adalbert designed at 16200 indicated horsepower at 20 knots, and on trials developed 17272 i.h.p. at 20.4 knots. S.M.S. Friedrich Carl designed at 17000 i.h.p. at 20.5 knots, and on her trials developed 18541 i.h.p. at 20.5 knots.
Fuel reserves: 750 tons coal/normal, 1630 tons coal/maximum.
Radius of action: 5000 nautical miles at 12 knots.
Additional General Information for Class:
Good ships, with good sea-keeping qualities, although their movement tended to become more pronounced as the bunkers emptied. The outermost compartments on the lower decks tended to be wet in even small seas. Designed in the 1899-1900 period, and designated one as new construction and one as a replacement ship for S.M.S. König Wilhelm.

Dec.12.03 with the Fleet...Mar.1.09 torpedo school ship...1914 coastal defense... Nov.17.14 struck Russian mine off Memel in the Baltic, sank at 0715 hours with 7 lost.
