Main Armament: Eight 28 cm quick firing guns of 45 calibres length arranged in four double turrets, one each fore and aft, and one on each beam, diagonally offset.

Ten 15 cm quick firing guns of 45 calibres length in casemates. Sixteen 88mm quick firing guns, number reduced to twelve in 1916. Two 88mm single mount anti-aircraft guns added 1916. Four 45cm underwater torpedo tubes, one bow, one starboard side of stern, one each beam.
Armor: Armoured traverse bulkheads: stern/100mm, vital areas/100mm, bow/180mm... Side armour: stern/0-100mm, vital areas/250, bow/120-100mm...Citadel armour: 225mm...Horizontal armour: upper deck/20mm, armoured deck and inclines/50mm... Heavy guns: barbettes/230mm, turrets-side/230mm, top/90mm...casemates: 150mm... conning tower: front/250mm, rear/200mm.
Machinery: Eighteen naval boilers feeding two Parsons turbines. Output of 42,000 s.h.p. at 24.8 knots. Forced speed of 27.4 knots attained at 79,007 s.h.p. Four propellers, two parallel rudders.
Fuel reserves: 984 tons coal/normal, 2756 tons coal/maximum.
Radius of action: 4400 nautical miles at 14 knots.
Additional General Information for Class:
The first German battle cruiser and also the first German capital ship with turbine propulsion. Her designers sacrificed heavier armament for greatly increased armour protection, and the "steadfastness" of this ship was very much greater than that of the contemporary British battle cruisers. Von der Tann was constructed at a cost of RM36,500,000.
