Tench McCormick

Tench was born 13 March 1810 in Overton Co, TN, to William McCormick and Nancy Hendricks McCormick. Tench must have been quite a character. His nickname was Coons, and he was known to enjoy a little nip with the boys every now and then. Sometime after Catherine's death on 7 October 1860, old Tench married Jemima West, daughter of Barney West. On the night of 10 December 1862, Tench stumbled home drunk after one of his evenings out. He got just a bit too friendly with one of his step-daughters, and Jemima hit him on the head with a poker and then repeatedly stabbed him with a buffalo skinning knife. Well if you've ever seen a buffalo skinning knife, then you know she must have wanted him quite dead! Jemima headed for the hills with her children and was never seen in the area by the McCormick's again.
