Calendars

How many calenders do we display, put into desk drawers, or pocket at the beginning of each year? A guess would not come close to the reverence we give the calender. Not only are we concerned with the day of the week to set our schedule, but those small squares on each calendar display the way we are living our lives.

The moment we are brought into this world, the exact time, day and date are precisely recorded. We will always need that birth certificate to prove our arrival in a certain state or country. We are logged into the history of records. We can go further and find that nursery rhymes give significance to the day of the week we were born. That is, if we are superstituous enough to believe the jingle.

When do they tell us that the days pass by quickly? Well,it must be when we are vacation. At that time we rarely have any need to constantly look at the calendar, because we have reached our destination and should be looking forward to having fun. When we arrive back home, that is the time we seem to want to record all our events. We then are asking ourselves the exact day we went to such a place or saw a magnificant sight. When did we meet those people from Europe? Were they at that Japanese Restaurant where we all sat around a grill? Could be.

What are those dates which we are pressed to keep? It seems outside of normal business obligations, we must be sure to schedule our health checkups and give a 24-hour notice to cancel. This preventative maintenance on our body systems becomes a real necessity for marking several squares on your calendar each year.

Now who does not like to go out to a restaurant of good reputation and have a luncheon or evening meal? If the exact day and timing are off, we can have a terrible time. We must be aware of routine and have the sense to eat either before or after the crowds. This demands a phone call and reservation and another mark on our calendar.

One of the most pleasant things to log into our special calendar is when we planted a tree for a special event or remembrance of a person we loved and cherished. The same joy can be given back to us when we plant a flower or vegetable garden. Those days are special, as are the first pickings of our garden.

We do owe a sense of appreciation to our calenders, as our lives would not be meaningful unless we see the writing on those pages and what we have accomplished. This holiday season do not be alarmed when you receive more than one or several reminders that your life is important. Share your gifts, especially an extra calendar, for this might be your best year after all.
