Punky's Life

Welcome to my cage. Here I have adventures and tell stories to my friends. My name is Punky.
As soon as my mom learns how she is going to add my picture here with my two friends Jo and Reggae. They are both Cockatiels. Not many people know that they are parrots too, just like me. I am a Congo African Grey hatched and raised in Kamloops, BC. I've never been anywhere else but many interesting people and birds have come to visit in the past 5 years that I have lived with mom and dad.
My first bird friend was Jo. Let me tell you about him.

Jo

Jo is a male grey Cockatiel. Mom got him from the SPCA. He just landed on someone one day and was homeless. No one knows for sure how old Jo is. But we all figure about 10. He is the happiest Cockatiel I've ever seen. He sings and plays all day. He loves dad best and follows him all over the house. I like to call out his name when he is singing or squeaking. Jo sometimes comes over and shares my food with me and we like to stand in the bathroom together and mumble. Jo knows alot of good places to hide in the house. So we play hide and seek sometimes. Jo hides and I seek. Jo always gets home before me. He can run. I trip over my feet. That is just one difference between a parrot that flies alot and searches for food on the ground and a parrot that climbs in the trees alot. The home base in our game is the fireplace. Ohh it's so much fun. You should come and play sometime. I will write more about my friends later.

Now I want to tell you about Barney.

Barney

Barney was a Blue Front Amazon that Mom found in a local pet store. It was instant love. So Dad bought him for Mom on their first anniversary. Mom tamed Barney down and soon he would go to anyone. Dad made Barney his very own t-stand perch where Barney spent alot of time playing. He learned to say 4 things:Hello, Barney, Kelly, Come here. He loved Mom very much. He used to rub his face on Mom's face begging to be scratched. He would run across the floor to climb up Mom's bathrobe. He would preen Mom's hair and loved to shower. He would put out his wings and go OOOOOOO!(as in FOOD). He loved to go outdoors and play in the sprinkler.Barney let me hang out on his perch when I came to live at home and could perch finally. He would preen my head and we would swing together on the sticks and branches Dad had put on the t-stand. He helped me learn to say Hello! I loved Barney I would call his name when I wanted to play with him. But one day Barney became very ill and could not eat anything. Then he couldn't stand. Mom put him in a hospital and said he would get better. But then she brought him home and he still wasn't any better. Mom stayed with him all day. She held him and I stood on the back of the couch and watched. Then Mom cried and told Dad he had died. I never saw Mom cry so much. They buried Barney in the backyard. I miss Barney. I used to call for him, but Mom would say he was gone. He was a good friend.

Next came Reggae and Telly

Reggae and Telly

Reggae and Telly are cockatiels that Mom was given because their owner didn't want them anymore. Reggae is a grey Male and Telly is a Lutino Male. They are very private cockatiels. They don't like to play with anyone, not ever Jo! Mom gave Telly to a lady who had a female that she wanted to breed. Telly is very happy now. Reggae is very old Mom says. About 20. His previous owner didn't like him very much and that his why he is very anti-social. But he shares my room with me and we look out into the backyard together. We tell each other stories when Mom and Dad are gone during the day and we wait for them to come home. I hope I can be as old as Telly one day. He's got lots of stories.

Our last friend is Max.

Max

Max is a Blue and Gold Macaw. His owner died in a car accident and a friend of the owner inherited Max. But this friend didn't really want a big bird. So she told my Mom's mom and my Mom's mom told my mom. So Max came to live with us. Max missed his owner VERY much. Though he fell in love with Dad pretty quick. Ohh but he would beat up on Mom something awful. Max kept going around trying to build nests everywhere he went. Mom and Dad talked and said that Max wanted to have a mate, and they suspected Max was a she. Mom talked to a man she knows in Kelowna about finding a suitable partner for Max. The man said that shouldn't be a problem. So Max went to Kelowna.Sure enough Max was a she! Now she is in Vancouver area and has laid her first clutch with her new husband.

So that is the fun birds that have entered my life over the past 5 years. There are some great people too. Check back and I will tell you about them!
