During the summer of 2004, several descendents of Peter Rench discussed the poor physical condition of Peter’s headstone and expressed concern that the headstone may soon fall into a such a state that could not be repaired. Thus, it was decided that a new headstone would be placed next to the original one, to mark our patriarch's location in Zion Reformed Church's cemetery for future generations. A fund drive was set up to raise money for this project. Thanks to a most generous donation by my father, J. Kenneth Rentch, and several other Rench/Rentch descendents, the money was raised and in the spring of 2005, a new headstone was placed next to Peter's original one. The new headstone also included the names of Peter’s grandson, Daniel, and Daniel's two wives. The following pictures were taken by the author to document that occasion. As a Rench/Rentch descendent, I hope you find the opportunity to visit this new marker in Hagerstown, Maryland. |
