Homer Brooke Taylor
1879-1973


 

Homer Brooke Taylor, the fifth child of James T. Taylor, was a man of few words. . In 1915, Brooke married Anna Leola Brown, of Berkeley Co., WV. A hard worker he did as best he could to raise a family during the Great Depression. The couple lived in his fathers house in Grimes, Va. At one point he took his new family to Harrisburg, Pa. where he made apple barrels for a living. It was here that Louise Spencer Taylor was born. Eventually he found his way back to Grimes, Va. where he settled on the family farm. A second child, Margaret Burridge Taylor was born. Shortly after Margaret's birth, their mother- Anna Leola died during the great influenza epidemic that was devastating the Shenandoah Valley. During this time, Louise and Margaret went to live with their grandmother, Maggie Kyner Brown, in Hedgesville, WV. In 1925, Brooke remarried to Stella Gordon, of Frederick Co., VA. The couple had three children; James, Ida Jean, and Herbert.
