  • Clan Anderson Anderson is a common surname in the Lowlands of Scotland; in the Scottish Highlands, it is rendered as MacAndrew. Both surnames indictate "son of Andrew." Robert Bain indicates that Clan MacAndrew are regarded a sept of Clan Chattan, and have been associated with that Confederation of Clans from the beginning of the 15th century. Traditionally some MacAndrews are associated with the MacDonells of Glengarry and wear their tartan.
  • Clan Chisholm It is said that the name is Norman and is first recorded in the barony of Chieseholme in Roxburghshire. The head of the Chisholm clan is called "The Chisholm". An old chief of Clan Chisholm claimed that only three persons in the world were entitled to use the definite article "The" namely, "The Pope, The King and The Chisholm."
  • Clan Douglas The Douglases were considered to be the most influential and powerful of the Lowland families and who at the height of their powers were possibly the greatest family in Scotland. The first record of this name was in 1175 when William de Duglas witnessed a charter by the Bishop of Glasgow to the monks of Kelso.
  • Clan Fraser Legend traces the origin of the name Fraser to Jules de Berry, a tenth century French gentleman who served a plate of delicious strawberries to King Charles the Simple and was knighted with the name "Fraiser", (french for strawberry). In acknowledgment of this fable, the Frasers have always borne strawberry flowers in their coat of arms. However the main line of Fraser developed from Sir Gilbert of Touch-Fraser, who died in 1263.
