NOTE:   George STOVOLD,   ABT 1555 - 16 FEB 1609/10
Earliest known ancestor, George (Stovold, Stoffolde, Stowfold)
was born around 1555 in England. He married Lettice Stone (the
daughter of John and Joan Stone of Farley Green, co. Surrey,
England) on September 15, 1583 in Albury, co. Surrey, England.

George, the first Stovall to have a marriage entry in the
Albury Register, was probably born in a neighboring parish
since no other records have been found as of this time.

Some researchers believe that he might be the brother named in
the will of Thomas Stovolde of Worplesdon, co. Surrey, England.
While a resident of Albury Parish, he was a Pikeman on the
countyâs muster roll of January 29, 1583/4. George Stoffolde of
Cranley (now known as Cranleigh), a Husbandman, signed his will
with a mark on February 13, 1609/10. He died February 15,
1609/10 in Cranley, the executors of his will being his wife
Lettice and son John. He bequeath money to his sons; George
(who was under the age of 21) and Thomas, while his son John
received a lease on a tenement in the parish of Albury. The
will was proved by the executors in the Archdeaconry Court of
  Surrey on April 5, 1610.

Lettice Stobal married Robert Tanner on December 20, 1610 in
Cranley, co. Surrey, England. She may be the "Widow Tanner"
buried on April 26, 1646 in Cranley. €91
