Rosa Mae Carney McNair February 20, 1932 - December 10, 1998 Rosa Mae Carney McNair, a resident of Pitt County passed away early Thursday morning, December 10, 1998 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Richard Carney, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Carney. She grew up in the Bethel and Greenville communities where she worked on the farm. After graduating from Bethel Union High School, Rosa attended Elizabeth City State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She began her teaching career at Bethel Union High School and continued in the Pitt County school system until she retired from Ayden Middle School as the Media Coordinator in 1988. At an early age, she joined Medley Chapel C.M.E. Church where she was active for many years. Her involvement included singing in the choir and serving on the Usher Board. Rosa continued her involvement in the church at Spring Garden where her husband is the pastor. At Spring Garden, she actively participated in the Senior Choir, Progressive and Circle Y clubs. In June of 1962, Rosa was married to Ernest R. McNair, Jr. They were blessed with two sons, Eric and Kenric. Rosa leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Reverend Ernest R. McNair, Jr. of the home; two sons, Eric Roy of Greensboro, NC and Kenric Elbert of Charlotte, NC; one sister Pauline C. Brown (Hildred) of Greenville, NC; one brother, Russell Carney of Mt. Rainier, MD; mother- and father-in-law, Ernest R. McNair, Sr. and Helen McNair of Weldon, NC; four aunts, Minnie Lowe Chance and Lurlean Lowe Williams, both of Bethel, NC, Adell Carney Andrews of Robersonville, NC and Marigold Carney of Winterville, NC; one uncle, James A. Chance of Bethel, NC; two devoted friends, Mrs. Helen Ruth Randolph of Bethel, NC and Mrs. Helen Barnes of Greenville, NC; ten sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
