Home School
We have 4 kids that have attended public schools. Michelle is 14 and
in the 8th grade, Steven is 11 and in the 5th grade, and the twins Aaron
and Jennifer are 4 and have attended preschool. We have become so disappointed
in the public school system because of various reasons that we have decided
to home school our kids. We have researched the subject of home schooling
and are convinced that it is the right thing for our kids. There are numerous
resources on the internet and through publishers of home school materials.
After starting the home school program for our kids, we have learned
many valuable lessons. One of the main things we learned was that even
though we are not certified teachers and have no teaching experience, we
are much better at teaching our children. Not because we are more educated
or better teachers, but because we are sensitive to the needs of our kids.
We know what they are interested in and how much attention span they have.
We can tailor the lesson plans to suite their needs and interests. The
kids actually do most of the teaching themselves. We learn to use everyday
situations as lessons such as comparison shopping at the grocery store,
or even objects in motion and centrifugal force by letting them ride on
a roller coaster. We also are learning allot right along with the kids.
The kids can do a book report on the books that interest them, instead
of books that are chosen for them that they have no interest in. It makes
since to me that a child will learn more by participating and using learning
techniques that interest them.
We have researched many home school sites on the internet as well as
resources in our favorite book stores. We have ordered catalogs of learning
material and are always looking for learning opportunities. We can teach
them about the bible and teach them to look to the bible for the truth.
With a good Christian based home school program a kid can grow up with
the right values and beliefs.
Below is a list of some useful sites for home school resources. Please
let us know if there are any sites that should be on our list and we will
be glad to add them.
