My Philosophy
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. - Hamlet
As I grow older and, despite what many would say, wiser, I come to realize that my view of world has been evolving. I will attempt in the coming months to compile my thoughts on a number of important questions, and thereby identify my own unique comprehensive doctrine. I will also provide links to works with which I agree, either in whole or in part, that serve to elucidate my values and judgements better than I could on my own.
Matters of Personal Preference
- "To Do Your Duty" An original essay dated April, 2000. This represents my first attempt to compose the thoughts that shape my own brand of moral philosophy.
- "Three Virtues: Discipline, Objectivity, Humanity" Soon to be posted here, my essay on the three virtues each of us should strive to embody.
Conservative Political Philosophy
- "On Being Conservative" by Michael Oakshott, 1956. Although there is much in this essay which should have been omitted in light of its superfluous or distracting nature, I here present the entire document. I agree with most of what he says, and have highlighted particular passages which I found especially enlightening.
