[NI041] Per Mike Romo and told to him by Stan Romo.

I did have a chance to check on Martaler. The name does not appear in
the two early directories I mentioned above. (1859 or 1861/2) However, I
checked in a surname dictionary for Switzerland, and find that the only
spelling is MARTHALER, and there were quite a number in Zurich, in fact,
that's the largest concentration. the "thal" or "tal" part of the name
means "valley" in German, so the implication is that the family
originally came from the valley of the Mar (wherever that is).

[NI358]
Hi Penny!
[NI358]
Sorry it took me so long to write but life is a little hectic. My oldest
just started first grade and the twins are in pre-school. For the first
time in six years I had a little free time and I went overboard
signing-up for this committee and that activity. Now, between the kids
activities and my committee work, I am busy all day .
[NI358]
I'm not sure what I can add about our families, but I'll try. I grew up
in New York and as a kid, we spent alot of time with Marilyn, Mel, Neil
and John (Alan as a kid). I know my grandmother Elsie, and Sadie were
very close as children. They also lived close to each other after they
got married and had children. My mom has lots of great memories of
herself, Taube, Dorothy, Marilyn and Trudy. When Trudy moved to
California, my mom drove cross country with her. Her intent was to also
move to California. But my mom returned to New York.
[NI358]
My earliest childhood memories are of visiting grandpa MA in Port Jervis.
These were really the only times we saw the extended family (mainly my
grandmother's bothers, sisters, and their families).
[NI358]
I knew about other cousins that lived in California. We almost moved to
the Los Angeles area in 1969, but my dad's job possibility did not work
out. I do remember cousin Rachel visiting New York and staying with us
for a short time. Rachel is a year older than me and a year younger than
my sister. Over the years, we have made a few trips to California,
mostly to visit my Aunt Taube in San Diego. The last trip was about 8
years ago, before we had kids.
[NI358]
I got married in 1981 and moved to New Jersey in 1984. As you know We
have three children. After we moved to New Jersey the rest of our
families soon followed. My mom lives about 20 minutes away and loves
spending time with the grandchildren. My sister is about one hour north
and is also very busy with her three kids.
[NI358]
That's the update. It was nice to here from you. Sorry to here that
your mom is not well. Good luck with your genealogy chart. Keep in
touch!

Can't find any DeLorenze. Didn't check *every* directory, though, and
we
are missing 1900-1901. When I go back to make copies, I'll check to
see
when she stopped being listed at 603 Steiner. Incidentally, she is not
listed
at 603 Steiner until she is a widow.

Louise was sleeping downstairs next to the sewing room months before
she died. Pam thinks that she was slightly ill, but not very ill. Ilma
tells the
story about how while she was visiting her mother, Louise stated that she
had heard thread bobbins rolling on the floor. (There is some kind of
superstition among milliners about bobbins unwinding along the floor).
Louise kidded Ilma about hoping it did not mean that Anna was going to
die.
It was only a few months later when Louise, still only slightly ill, died
unexpectedly.

The company he had was known as Schmidt and Fretz. There are many
listings, and guess where he lived? At 603 Steiner. The last listing is
in 1881/2. In the 1882/3 directory there is a listing for "Schmidt,
Ignatz, estate of," and in 1883 Anna is listed as a widow living at
603 Steiner. So I'd say he died in late 1881.

in the possession of the formerly Upper Pfalgishen Country estates
Bernau, Ritzmansdorf, Shonberg and Wetzelsberg, in distress of the
disastrous event of the Thirty Year's War to leave the country and were
obliged to emigrate to Regelsburg (Radisburg). So bless we the happy
moment of our Government where we in the name of the Fatherland in the
fatherly arms once more can embrace returned children and to heal old
wounds from one side not deserved, from the other side not caused, and
since this our beloved faithful Secret Finance Councilor Godfrey Johann
Gemeiner, his fatherland twice already found, once as he with anticipated
confidence for more than 10 years on his acquired estate Lowenhof
resided, the other time as he was appointed Governor of his native town
Radisburg, it so gives us pleasure of great pleasure of satisfaction to
reinstall the same again in the class of the Bavarian Nobility, and
through this new bestowal of such honour, of our entire Kingdom to be
recognized. What therefore, our beloved loyal the Secret Finance
Councilor Johann Godfrey Gemeiner always glorious, we again and our
Kingdom, through the thankful efforts of his descendants, may remain
useful, we execute herewith by the authority of the Kingdom, confirm and
bestow the same, together with all
his wedded heirs, recently the rank of Noble of our Kingdom, we wish him
to use all herewith connected honours and preferences, sign himself
Nobler von Gemeiner of Furth and Lattlern, also use the following Family
Shield with the coat of arms everywhere:
Composed of an Oval form, constructed in a downward blunt point in four
parts, with a German Shield in the form of a heart in which first on top
and
third below a red or ruby painted field a suspended silver milliron
hangered
shows in the second top and the fourth below, the blue or azure colour
divided shield, a two-leaved Oaktwig with the acorns showing. On the
three
hilled green ground of the black and silver divided heart shield stands a
figure of a man dressed in white in the black part and black in the
silver part,
his head covered with a Burett, a turned-up throat collar with lapel and
gold
buttons; in his right hand a silver milliron, holding in his left hand an
Oaktwig,
in forward turned position. Over the two sides of blue and red
Helmetcover
surrounded shield reset an open titelt gold crowned Thurmieshelm with a
jewel attached out of the same crown between two rights of blue and red
and
left side of black and silver cross divided Elephant trunk, out of which
opens
on golden rods at right a white and black, on the left a red and blue
Reider
Pendant flowing, in the heartshield already described figure of a man
with
white and black suit, in his hands a milliron and an Oaktwig grasping,
till to
the abdomen forth growing.
This may be known to all Crown and Government officials and to all our
higher and lower State's Civil Servants, and to all our subjects
generally, that they our beloved and loyal Johann Godfrey Nobler von
Gemeiner of Furth and Lattlern and his descendants mo alone as Nobles
recognize, but also where it is their office, or their duty demands near
by participate, while it is our Will that every one who acts contrary to
this bestowal through the (fical?) of our Court be called to Court and
there as well because of violation of our order as for ignorance well
deserved competence of a third person to Public and Private Satisfaction
together without all indulgence should be punished.
To confirm all this, we sign our King's name and attached our Great Royal
Seal.
Thus it took place in our Principal and Residence City of Munich, the
first day in the month of September one thousand eight hundred and

Howard has been seriously sick and in bed 5 weeks. He is just now up
and convalescing trying to gain back some of the 15 pounds he lost. He
has been so terribly exhausted his blood count was down to 72 and should
be 92 or plus. At once Dr. started with medication and Howard responded
to it and is doing nicely. He had 3 ailments at once. Pleurisy,
bronchitis & tracheites, which is inflammation of the wind pipe and very
painful. Dr. came nearly every day. I did all the nursing. August and
part of September I had my 2nd attack of respiratory infection. Surely
glad we were not both sick at same time.
Last July we celebrated our Golden Wedding anniversary. Gave a dinner
party for 30 fields. It was a lovely occasion. the table was
beautifully decorated with yellow & gold flowers - even the green beans
were shot & sprayed with gold. A friend presented us with a 3 tiered
cake which was beautifully decorated.
We have had lovely weather, with a little rain mixed in. but for us
always welcome.
I do hope you will drop us a line and let us know how your health is.
Our best wishes for 1964
