The Maine Coon is an American native. It is a longhaired cat that originated according to one of the legends in the state of Maine. Allthougth genetically impossible, the legend says these cats originated from a mix between the feral cats and the raccoon, hence the name Maine Coon.
The Maine Coon is a very gentle and loving cat. They love to play with anything they can find and will assist you with all your chores. They are best described as gentle giants. But keep the giant in perspective. These cats do NOT weigh 40 lbs. The average weight for a male Maine Coon is 12-20 lbs and believe me a 20lb cat is a very large animal.
