Joseph Carrington Callahan, Sr., 80, of Route 2, Gladys, died Sunday, March 24, 1991 in Virginia Baptist Hosptial. He was the husband of Mrs. Ethel Callahan Callahan.
Born in Campbell County, August 18, 1910, he was a son of the late Joseph Wesley Callahan and Carrie King Callahan. He was a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the H. K. Porter Company and was a farmer.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, J. C. Callahan, Jr. of Lynchburg, six daughters, Mattie C. Neal, Libby C. Hendricks, Louise C. Hall, and Eva C. Cupec, all of Gladys, Emily C. Gilbert of Lynchburg and Billie C. Langford of Concord; one brother Wesley Callahan of Fredricksburg; two sisters, Ada Bell of Altavista and Beulah Miles of Hurt; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted today, 3 p.m. in Swan Creek Baptist Church by Dr. Wayne Sterling and the Rev. R. S. Wallace, burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body is at the residence. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Citizens Emergency Crew, Gladys.
