Eugene Curtis Roberts Jr., 59, of Front Royal died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at America House in Front Royal. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal with Rev. George H. Parker. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Swan Creek Baptist Church Cemetery near Alta Vista. Mr. Roberts was born November 12, 1940 in Danville, son of Eugene C. Roberts Sr. and Elizabeth Smith Costello Roberts. He was a noted banjo player having performed with Bill Monroe. He recorded with the Grass Cutters and the Blue Grass Partners and performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn. He was a Korean War veteran with the U.S. Air Force and was married to the late Florine Hall Roberts. Surviving are a half-sister, Virginia Diacont of Richmond; two half-brothers, Cornelius "Connie" Costello of Hagerstown, Md. and Charles M. Costello. The family will receive friends on Tuesday 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. |
