Amend Girl Scout Center

The Amend Girl Scout Center houses the office of Flint Hills Girl Scout Council, a busy center designed for the convenience of the many volunteers, dedicated in December 1991. Besides the offices of the support staff, there is a library where you can find everything there is to know about Girl Scouts, camping, safety, history of Girl Scouting, craft ideas, games ideas, songs, etc. Many leaders use this library when planning activities for their Girl Scout meetings. The Council Annual Reports are on hand also for the public to overview. There is also a workroom with informative flyers on programs that the Council offers, information about Girl Scouting, parent information and extra forms. Come in and check them out!

The Council Store is also located in the Amend Girl Scout Center. Girl Scout uniforms, insignia, books, and miscellaneous items are available for sale in “The Store.”

We take pride in our large meeting room that is available for use by all Girl Scout groups - troops, overnight, neighborhood activities, adult trainings, special workshops for girls and more. The “Hall of Honor” contains:

60’x40’ meeting room with seating for 200 - Fully equipped kitchen
Restrooms with showers - Washer/Dryer - TV/VCR

Contact the Council for more information. Amend Girl Scout Center office hours are: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Monday through Friday).

Membership

An association of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. for girls 5-17 from all racial, ethnic, religious and socio-economic populations including girls with disabilities.

Personal and group contributions of citizens in each community make possible a full program of Girl Scouting for every girl with the purpose of preparing her for the future as a happy, successful citizen with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism and service. Girl Scouting’s contemporary program is built on a foundation of proven values and is designed to help a girl make intelligent choices for herself.

Girls are served in five program levels:
Daisy Girl Scouts, ages 5-6 (kindergarten or grade 1)
Brownie Girl Scouts, ages 6-8 (or grades 1-2-3)
Junior Girl Scouts, ages 8-11 (or grades 3-4-5-6)
Cadette Girl Scouts, ages 11-14 (or grades 6-7-8-9)
Senior Girl Scouts, ages 14-17 (or grades 9-10-11-12)

Membership includes adults; volunteer administrators, consultants, leaders, board members, and staff specialists in child development, adult education, outdoor education, and management. Employed staff are fewer than one percent of total adult membership.

Program

The Girl Scout program meets the developmental, educational, and social needs of girls, 5-17. Together girls and adults choose their goals, make decisions, and evaluate accomplishments.

Campsite

Camp Double EE is a beautiful, sparsely wooded troop campsite located on 8 acres of fenced land, owned by the Flint Hills Girl Scout Council and located northwest of Emporia, Kansas. Facilities at the campsite include:

Double E Cabin
Hammon Lodge
Boxcar
Shelter

Ash pits

Camp Double E is named in honor of Ed and Edna Fanestil - two early supporters of Flint Hills Girl Scout Council. Their contributions and efforts made this building a reality when it was completed in 1952. The land was donated by the Rotary Club of Emporia.

Council Programs

Two by Two - Mother-Daughter Campout - A fun-packed, annual weekend campout - special time for mothers and daughters! Events include: Canoeing, Songs, Crafts, Campfire Activities, Nature Hikes, Good Food, Great Times!

Honor Troop - The purpose of the honor troop program is to help troops carry out a good, quality program thoughout the year. The requires should help the troop in planning the year’s activities and could be the basis for the troop’s overall program.

Recruit to the Top of Flint Hills - The Council Recruitment-Retention-Outreach Unit is sponsoring a membership plan for Flint Hills Girl Scout Council. By recruiting and retaining our members in Girl scouts, we are making every effort to share our Girl Scout program with an increased number of girls.

The Council Windmill Pin or Ladder Rung will be earned by all members of a troop which have a higher percentage of the girls available in their area than:

Daisies - 40%; Brownies - 40%; Juniors - 26%; Cadettes - 7%; Seniors - 3%

Council staff will secure school statistics in the Fall to determine how many Girl Scouts a troop needs to qualify as a “Windmill Troop”. Troops will receive notification on their status toward this award as soon as it is available.

Recruit to the Top of Flint Hills!! Become involved!! Invite someone new to join Girl Scouts and work toward earning your Windmill Pin or Ladder Rung!

Hop on Board - The purpose of the program is to reward troops for their recruiting of new Girl Scouts who are in Grades 2 through 12. The patch program consists of a patch and incentives (frogs) to go with the patch. For the first Girl Scout that a troop recruits, each girl in the troop will receive a “Hop on Board” patch. For each additional Girl Scout that a troop recruits, each girl in the troop will receive an embroidered frog to put on or around their patch.
