3. Types of Resources available (not an exhaustive list, and not specific to every person/company/organization)

• Hello, Mr. Manager! My name is Susie Girl Scout. I'm calling on behalf of our Girl Scout Day Camp which is scheduled for June 8-11 this summer. We will be impacting the lives of 200 girls by enriching their lives with outdoor experiences including: rappeling, games, ziplining, crafts and much more (be sure to add the activity for which you need the item(s) you will be asking them for). It is for this reason I am calling you Mr. Manager. The cost to the girl to attend Day Camp is very low and we have very limited funds to provide the important program we have designed. This is where we need your help, Mr. Manager. Would you be willing to help us with xxxx activity? This would involve "having yourself or a member of your organization/company come out to Camp XXX and teach the girls about xxx. (Now, be silent and wait for an answer or response.) Answer questions as asked, and then be quiet.
• If they ask for a letter explaining the event, the cause, detailing what their contribution should be, send one out TODAY! Do not delay!!
• If no or not at this time, thank them and continue calling the next company.
• If yes, make arrangements to get the information to the volunteer.
• Make sure you thank them, and thank them, and thank them for their support and generosity. Thank them publicly at the closing ceremony, with them present. Present them with a small thank you gift (either purchased or made by the girls).
• Send a thank you note saying how the girls benefited by their generosity and if possible, a picture of the girls. If you have a camp newsletter, publicly thank them for their support. If there is a article in the paper about your event, send a photocopy of the article. Treat them right and they will support you again!

6. Be persistent, be creative! Most companies are willing, if they have the time. If you sell the benefits of them attending/helping you, give them some flexibility and options, you will more likely come out with a great program element.

We need your help!

Thank you for the opportunity to speak with you today about participating in our Girl Scout Day Camp. The theme of our camp is "XXX" and will be held from June 8-11 from 2 until 8:00 p.m. at Camp Timberlake (map is enclosed for your convenience). This year we will have 200 girls experiencing rappeling, zipline, (and list some others including the one they will be helping you with). Your assistance as a (professional/expert) in the area of XXX would help the girls understand the important contribution you make the community.

As we discussed, we would like you to tell the girls about your typical work day as a firefighter. It would be a great visual for the girls if you could also show them some of the fire fighting equipment that is used. Please let me know what you would need for your presentation. Please let us know the day and time that would be most convenient to your schedule.
