Materials Required:
1-18" square piece of muslin
1-18"x4" piece of print fabric
small handful of fiberfill
5-4" pieces of yarn
22" of 1/8" wide ribbon
Directions:
1. Place fiberfill in center of square. Draw up the fabric around the fiberfill to form the head. Tie with piece of yarn.
2. Lay doll out flat so that the front and back corners lay over each other.
3. Tie front 2 corners off as close to the doll's head as possible, forming arms. Then tie another piece of yarn or scrap down at the ends, forming wrists.
4. To make the head covering, use a contrasting color of fabric. Cut slits in the center of each side about 1/3 of the way in (6").
5. Drape the headcovering piece over doll's head sideways with front flaps over arms, back flaps behind. tie in place with a coordinating piece of ribbon, forming the waist.
6. Real pioneer dolls had no faces. However, younger girls might want to put a face on their doll. You might suggest they give their new doll a name.
7. Enjoy! The Brownies made these at our Pioneer Day Camp one year and it was a huge success!
