Why we Are Going to Savannah...

The girls decided they would like to experience the steps necessary in planning and taking a trip. They decided on Savannah, Georgia, since it is the birthplace of our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, a gateway to the Atlantic Ocean, and full of history.

The experience has proven very educational. The girls have learned what it takes to earn their way to Savannah, become stronger leaders and individuals, and worked as a team to achieve a common goal. They have held numerous fundraising babysitting events, not to mention the countless boxes of cookies they have trucked through their neighborhoods, and carried to cookie booths.

These young ladies have learned about different opportunities they can choose to take advantage of, while on our trip, through individual research, troop meetings, and guest speakers. They have worked together in harmony to meet their goal.

In addition, the girls have learned about the requirements by GSUSA and Mid-Continent Girl Scout Council for troops taking trips. Some of the requirements were less than desirable, but, the end result is they will go to Savannah!

The trip will take place on March 17-21, 1999, as we board the plane from Kansas City for Savannah, Georgia. As we arrive, the girls will have another treat in store, as Savannah is host to the second largest St. Patrick's Day party in the United States.

And onward we will go!
