Cleaning rust from your iron

>Recently my iron has been leaking spots of rusty water. I was wondering if there was any way that I could clean the inside of the iron so that if it leaked, at least the water would be clean?

>I remember a while ago someone said >something about vinegar, but I'm not >sure if it was for this.

Generally, white distilled vinegar will clean out an iron.

Put in it straight, full strength, let the iron sit in a sink in the flat (down) position so the vinegar can trickle out the steam jets. Sometimes you need to heat the iron with the vinegar in place...usually it helps to just let it sit for about an hour. Vinegar works slowly. Then, of course, you have to run several tanks of plain distilled water through the iron to finish the cleaning job.
