Hart Sinclair Family
Thank you for putting wonderful information on the
internet. My great grandfather, Hart Sinclair, was
listed among soldiers of the Civil War. His year of
death was listed as 1821, when in fact, it was 1921.
Riegelsville, PA, was the retirement place for him
and his wife, the former Lydia Catherine Bellis. He
farmed in Holland Township, NJ, until his
retirement. The Sinclairs were lifelong members of
the Holland Presbyterian Church. Lydia had two
sisters with ties to Riegelsville, Mrs. Adam
Bigley ( the former Mary Bellis) and Mrs. Edward
Freer ( the former Susan Bellis).
My mother, the former Della Parker, was raised in
Riegelsville by Hart and Lydia Sinclair following
the death of her mother, Jennie Sinclair Parker. My
mother was raised by the Sinclairs from ages two to
fifteen. Upon the death of her grandmother, my
mother lived with her aunt, Ella Brotzman. My
mother was raised in St. John UCC. She should be
included in the membership records. On May 25,
1935, she was married to my father, Alfred Wertz, in
the parsonage of that church by Rev. Samuel Kirk.
Hart and Lydia Sinclair are buried next to their
daughter, Jennie Parker, in the Riegelsville Union
Cemetery. There should be a flag on the grave of
Hart Sinclair. My parents, Alfred and Della Parker
Wertz, are also buried in that cemetery.
