Mike writes:

"It has occurred to me that lot of our cousins from overseas may not be aware that the indexes cover all of Australia for a short period, not just the states mentioned on the CD case.

The records of NSW covered all known immigrant population of Aus. until well into the 1800's.

From memory, Queensland began recording events in their own right in the late 1850's.

South Australia in the late 1840's early 1850's.

      Victoria in the late 1830's.

So, if you are searching only by state for a rellie and are not aware of Aus. history, you may not find the information that you seek.

Also, while Sydney NSW in the early years (1788-1840+) was the main point of entry to Aus. Melbourne, Vic. became very popular once the gold rush started. (1850 something)

There were many many sponsored and bonded immigrants that landed in Melbourne and overlanded to Western NSW.

Brisbane, Queensland had an immigrant boom in the 1860's to 1890's as the north of Aus. was opened up to settlement.

If you try to relate it to the settlement of America with the way the population slowly spread westward, then you will find Australian records confusing. They landed and then scattered to all points of the compass."
