        Source Annotation : Names of passengers arriving through the port of the
San Francisco in mid-nineteenth century. San Francisco was the main port of
entry in settlement of the West, and it is probable that many immigrants
had already landed at New York and then taken ship to San Francisco,
particularly in the Gold Rush days. Passengers came from all over the
world, and vessels often called in other ports en route, embarking extra
passengers. San Francisco ship passenger lists were formerly printed in the
San Francisco Genealogical Bulletin (later San Francisco Historic Record
and Genealogy Bulletin), 1963-1965. See nos. 7875-7891.
