THE BATTLE OF THE BRANDYWINE
The annexed account of the Battle of Brandywine, and the
incidents connected therewith, will prove interesting to many
of our readers in this county, who are familiar with the spot
upon which it occurred. During the past fall, in company with
some friends, we spent a pleasant day at the residence of
CHALKLEY HARVEY , who has built a new house upon the site where
LAFAYETTE made his headquarters. Mr. HARVEY pointed out to us
the ground where the engagement took place, related many
matters of interest connected with the transactions of the
day, learned from the old residents of the neighborhood, and
exhibited to us several relics which had been found on the
battle field. WILLIAM HARVEY , spoken of in the narrative, was
the great grandfather of the Messrs. << HARVEY'S>> , now residing at
ChaddFord. The account is written in plain language, and as
it may be relied on as authentic, it is worthy of
preservation....
