There I am, right in the middle. I’m seated, surrounded by my family.
That’s my husband with his hand on my shoulder.
The three boys are positioned around me, with my daughter,
The youngest, at my side.
The portrait arouses so many emotions.
A moment in time, frozen. My family.
My family without my cancer; my blissfully ignorant family.
It isn’t that the camera lied -
It’s just that the truth captured by the camera was not the whole truth.
For even as we posed and smiled
The cancer was already there,
Waiting to make itself known.
