A Mother's Abode

Happy the man with a nursing child, for he has a singing wife. - GERMAN PROVERB

Perhaps the greatest social service that can be rendered by anybody...is to bring up a family. But...there is a very general disposition to regard a married woman's work as no work at all, and to take it as a matter of course that she should not be paid for it.- GEORGE BERNARD SHAW.

Nursing remains an invaluable mothering tool to soothe hurts, calm an overtired and wound-up child, and create an island of safety in a sometimes unfriendly environment. - KATHLEEN RANDOLPH

My name is Mary Young. I'm glad you stopped by. Feel free to drop me a line using the form at the bottom of this page.

If you are breastfeeding, or are pregnant and considering nursing your child, PLEASE take a moment to look at the La Leche League International homepage. La Leche League is an international, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed. All breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women interested in breastfeeding are welcome to come to our free meetings or call our Leaders for breastfeeding help. LLL also provides health care professionals with continuing education opportunities and access to the latest research on lactation management.

I am also an accredited La Leche League Leader with the Bowling Green, Kentucky Group. If you have a specific breastfeeding question or concern, follow this link to LLLI's help form. Use this form to submit a breastfeeding question to an accredited La Leche League Leader. This volunteer will answer your question within a week. If you need an immediate answer, contact a Leader in your area or call La Leche League at 847-519-7730. In the US you can call toll free 1-800-LALECHE.

For further breastfeeding information on the www, some excellent info can be found at Breastfeeding and Parenting Resources on the Internet. Another great link is at Lactation, Breastfeeding & Infant Nutrition.

One of my biggest interests is in cooking for my family. If you are likeminded, follow this link to the Electronic Gourmet Guide, which includes a monthly food trivia contest for prizes. Epicurious Magazine is the online version of Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines, and features a searchable recipe index. For lighter fare, try Cooking Light Online. If you're looking for a specific recipe, you can search more than 50,000 recipes at SOAR.

Parent Soup is a fabulous resource for parents with kids of all ages. Speaking of kids, The Craft Exchange is a nice spot to find rainy day projects. Or try Bill Nye the Science Guy's Lab Online. Looking for some new software for the kids in your life? The Kid's Domain is a site from which to download both Mac & PC software for children. This includes many commercial demos, and the software titles are divided into categories by age group.

I am also a stay-at-home mom/medical transcriptionist. To learn more about medical transcription a fantastic place to start is at MT Daily.

Interested in Genealogy? Take a look at Diane's Ancestral Page for great information on researching your family tree with the help of the internet.

I'd love to hear from you!

Please drop me a line to let me know that you were here! (But as much as would love to personally answer requests for breastfeeding information, I simply cannot due to the sheer volume of requests I was receiving from this form. I don't want any questions to go unanswered. So, if you have a specific breastfeeding related question, I would suggest that you fill out a LLL Breastfeeding Help Form, and a volunteer La Leche League Leader will answer your question. Or, you can check out the LLL Frequently Asked Questions about Breastfeeding pages, or look for a local LLL Group in your area).
