Sutherland, and his family were from Virginia. His mother's maiden name was Gunn. All Scottish. I know that, supposedly, three brothers came over from Scotland and my ancestor retained the original spelling of Sutherland while the ther two changed the spelling to Southerland. Mine is just curiosity as I am not heavily involved in genealogy (yet). My immediate ancestors are buried in the Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia. I also have relatives in Richmond, Virginia. Nam s are Sutherland, Gunn and Alley. Being the nosey person that I am, like Curious George, I want to know.
