Wage Garnishments

Under Iowa Code Section 642.21 an employer cannot discharge a worker
for wage garnishment (no matter how many or on how many accounts).
If an employer violates this law you should see an attorney right away.

Under federal law most employers in all states are prohibited from
discharging a worker for garnishments on one account. If an employer
violates this law contact the U.S. Department of Labor-Wage and Hour Division.

Garnishments can only come as a result of a court-granted judgement and
are very limited as to how much can be garnished. If you receive court papers
be sure to answer them. If the amount is not correct or if it not yours,
let the court know immediately.
