Kaitlin's Birthday Party

The Birthday Girl
In honor of Kaitlin's ninth birthday, we decided to allow her to have a party. You know, just a quiet little affair with family and a few of our closest friends. However did this idea get blown into a raucous disco party for a baker's dozen of girls, complete with a rotating disco ball light and pounding disco music? Don't ask me, I just live here.

This is the birthday girl, excited at the impending shindig. Really she is.

After spending weeks preparing for the party, buying supplies for the party, decorating the party room, and gathering up our considerable nerve, the time finally arrived. At 2:30 p.m., we walked over to the school to pick up the girls.

The teacher (Mrs. LaGioia) looked relieved to leave the girls in our care. That should have been the first clue. Even Katy's teacher from last year came by to tell us how brave we were. I discovered later that brave is code talk for insane.

Line up!
Inside, they lined up, headed down the hall, through the beaded curtain and into the party/disco room.

Introductions were made all around, then the girls got down to the finer points of partying. First on the agenda was the 'Funkiest Nails Contest,' which produced two winners. This was one (or should I say ten?). Next it was time for Elimination Twister to see which girl could make like the best human pretzel. Unfortunately, the only picture we netted of that was the picture of the game board in the background there. We were a bit, er, tied up.
Dinner time was chaos, then came blowing out the candles and the eating of the cake...a smiley cake, of course, to fit the theme.

On to Katy's favorite part...opening the gifts! She made out like a little bandit, too. Barbie was a favorite, along with dogs and Pokemon.

Then it as time to pay the piper as all the party-goers lined up to deliver their swats to the birthday girl. Rethinking that number of guests there, Katy?

Finally, the lights went off and the disco light came on, spinning around to the beat of the music. The girls danced and carried on late into the night. Two of them even won the disco dance contest. I'd show a picture of that, but hey...the room was dark!
