MEET THE MAYES FAMILY
Hi, my name is Dianna Marie Miller Mayes. I would like to introduce my family. I was born April 17, 1943 to Ehmann Joseph and Goldie Marie Loar Miller. I have one brother, Dennis Ehmann Miller and one niece Flora Sue. I graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1961. I have been a professional sales representative for Avon for thirty-four years. Some of my hobbies are designing flower arrangements, decorating cakes, photography, antique clothing and furniture and history. I taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. My husband, Guy Edward Mayes was born May 15, 1943 to Guy Eastman and Mabel Elizabeth Legg Mayes. He had five brothers and sisters, Donald and Donna and (now deceased) Johnny, Doris, and Darlene. Guy graduated from Groveport Madison High School in 1961. Guy was a graduate of Franklin University and a Certified Public Accountant. Guy enjoyed antique and classic cars, woodworking, furniture refinishing and history. Guy Edward Mayes passed away on October 28, 2006 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Guy and I were married January 19, 1963 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. We have two granddaughters by our oldest daughter; Goldie and Lacie Sullivan. Richard Edward was born on November 13, 1970. Richard and his wife Jeannie have three sons; Jonathan, Jared and Connor Mayes. Richard and Jeannie enjoy a variety of activities including camping and family outings. Our youngest daughter Elizabeth Ann was born November 1, 1978. Elizabeth is married to Greg McNany. Elizabeth’s son Caden Moore was born July 6, 2000. They enjoy outings with Caden and working on the computer. In 1978 Guy and I got interested in genealogy. We first talked to our parents, getting all the information they could remember, regarding their families. Next we expanded our research to other relatives. I mailed a lot of letters to people requesting their family information and any other information they would be willing to share. We traveled to states visiting people, libraries, court houses, government offices, genealogy/historical societies and cemeteries. During our research we acquired a large resource library, including books, publications, census records, court house and government records. I frequently use “Ancestry.com” for a lot of my research. We published a book called Burials In Sunbury Memorial Park, Sunbury, Delaware County, Ohio in 1991. There are over five thousand burials indexed. We also published two more books, one on the descendants of James Mayes of Augusta County Virginia and one on the descendants of Walter and Mary Ann (Hull) Cain of Hunterdon County New Jersey. Guy was a member of various genealogy societies and SAR; I have served as president and corresponding secretary of the National Colonial Dames; Captain Francis Drake Chapter, and also am a member of DAR and various genealogy societies. With the genealogy information on the Internet, I am able to do more genealogy research and still enjoy time with my family.
