(Cherry Blossom Viewing)
One of the most magical times in Japan is the transition from winter to spring when the cherry trees blossom for a brief time. | ![]() |

It's like a fantasy fairyland to sit under the trees decked in delicate light pink blossoms. It looks like a winter wonderland. I can see why the Japanese love this time of year.
They celebrate with blossom-viewing parties in local parks. From elementary students to salarymen and the aged, everyone gathers to eat "bentos" (lunches), sing, dance, drink sake, and celebrate the transitory beauty of their favorite flower, the sakura. |

The pale cherry blossoms last only one week or less. They begin to bloom in Southern Kyushu and continue northward as warm weather ushers in spring throughout the country. | ![]() |

Traditional Japan was entirely dependent upon the growing season. This brief time of blooming in April symbolized the annual rebirth of nature and reminded every one of the brief duration of life itself.

I can recommend this season as a wonderful time to visit Japan! |
