Leoma Smotherman

Services for Mrs. Leoma Adkins Smotherman, 86, Rockvale, who died Monday, July 7, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center following an extended illness, are set for 1. p.m. Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with burial in Westbrooks Cemetery. Wymer Wiser will officiate.

A native of the Link community, her parents were the late Littleton J., and Edna Westbrooks Smotherman. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles H, Adkins, who died in 1969.

She is survived by her husband, Noble Smotherman, and sister, Margaret Delbridge of Murfreesboro.

She was a member of Riverdale Church of Christ, Rutherford County Historical Society, was a past matron of Order of the Eastern Star, past mother advisor of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Order of the Amaranth, Delta Kappa Gamma, and a former member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

She was a graduate of Christiana High School, earned her bachelor's of science degree at MTSU and master's degree from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville.

She had taught in the elementary schools in Rutherford County, 30 years at Central High School, four years at Riverdale High School, and at MTSU.

Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
