My Hero - My Dad

As I ponder the love that I saw in his eyes,
A Godly love, given without compromise....
I recall many times that he stood by my side,
And prodded me on with great vigor and pride.
His voice ever confident, firm and yet fair,
Always speaking with patience, tenderness and care.
The power and might of his hands was so sure,
I knew there was nothing we couldn't endure.
It's true, a few others provided insight,
Yet, he laid the foundation that kept me upright.
He's the grandest of men to have lived on this earth,
Although he's not royal by stature or birth.
He's a man of great dignity, honor and strength.
His merits are noble, and of admirable length.
He's far greater than all other men that I know,
He's my Dad, he's my mentor, my friend and hero.
In loving memory of My dad
(1919-1997)

MY FATHER'S HANDS
Nurturing hands to a tiny child,
protecting me from unseen trouble.
Providing hand so I'd never be without,
even if it meant his work was double.

Patient hands showing me how to do math
or teaching me to ride a bike.
Comforting hands holding me when I was scared,
then tucking me in bed at night.

Proud hands boasting of me,
and praising crooked Lincoln Log houses.
Informative hands explaining all about life,
And what to look for in spouses.

Prayerful hands humbly folded next to mine,
Showing me how to talk to the lord.
Amusing hands always joking,
laughter kept us from ever being bored

Creative hands making just for me,
a green gazebo bird feeder.
Loving hands alway sharing a hug,
whenever I might need it.

Father's hands applauding me at graduation,
and later waving as I left the nest.
Then patting me on my shoulder,
always knowing I'd do my best

Sympathetic hands after a hurt,
gently wiping a tear from my eye.
Shaking hands at the end of life's journey,
finding the right words for saying goodbye

Hands that have always been open for me,
Christlike hands that point the way
Towards heaven when his hands will take mine,
On my journey home on that promised day!!

Until we meet again on that glorious day!Remember!!
I LOVE YOU!!
