Old-Fashioned Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Makes:  4-5 dozen 3" cookies

1/2 c. soft butter
1/3 c. shortening
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
1/4 t. ground allspice
1/4 t. ground cloves
1/4 t. salt
2 t. vanilla extract
1/3 c. sugar
1-1/4 c. brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 c. quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 c. chopped nuts
3/4 c. seedless raisins
2 c. all-purpose flour

Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Blend together first 8 ingredients.  Gradually mix in white and 
brown sugars.  Beat in eggs, 1 at a time.  Stir in next 3 ingredients.  
Gradually stir in flour.

Drop tablespoon portions of dough, 2 inches apart, onto lightly 
greased baking sheets.  Bake 10 minutes or until lightly browned 
around the edges.  Cool 3 minutes on cooky sheets, then place on 
wire racks to cool thoroughly.  Store in airtight containers.

NOTE:  This dough keeps well in the refrigerator.  You can bake as 
many cookies as desired and return the remaining dough to the 
refrigerator for later use.
