Coconut-Toffee Bars (ideal for Cuisinart)

Makes:  24 bars

1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. butter, cut into small bits
1/4 c. butter-flavor shortening
1 c. all-purpose flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

In food processor bowl mix brown sugar and flour, pulse until blended. 
Add bits of butter and shortening, pulse until mixture resembles small
crumbs.

Press into ungreased 9"x13" baking pan.  Bake 10 minutes.

Spread Coconut-Almond Topping (below) over baked layer.  Bake until
golden brown, about 12-15 minutes.  Cool slightly; cut into bars.


Coconut-Almond Topping

2 eggs
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 to 1-1/4 c. shredded coconut
1 c. chopped almonds
2 T. all-purpose flour
1 t. baking powder
1 t. vanilla-butter-nut flavoring
1/2 t. salt

In bowl of food processor beat eggs lightly by blending for about 2
seconds.  Add remaining ingredients, process until thoroughly blended.
