Gooey Chocolate Caramel Bars
 
 
  • Ingredients:
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2 cups butter or margarine (divided)
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
     
    • Preheat oven 350
    • Line 13"x 9" pan with foil.
    • combine flour, sugar, salt till blended.
    • Cut in 14 tablespoons butter.
    • Press into pan.
    • Bake 18 - 20 minutes till browned.
    • Cool completely
    • Combine 1 cup butter, brown sugar and corn syrup in heavy sauce pan.
    • Cook over medium heat 5 - 8 minutes until boiling stirring frequently. 
    • Boil gently 2 minutes without stirring
    • Pour over cooled base; spread evenly to edges with metal spatula.
    • Cool
    • Melt chocolate in double boiler over hot (hot simmering) water.
    • Stir in remaining 2 tablespoons butter. 
    • Pour over cooled caramel layer. 
    • Refrigerate 10 - 15 minutes till chocolate begins to set.
    • Remove; cool completely.
    • Cut into bars
