Henry
Walter APSEY and Elizabeth RINEHEART
Henry Walter APSEY was born in Melbourne on 5 April 1843,
just seven years after John BATMAN and his family arrive at Port
Phillip and occupies Batman Hill. Henry's parents were Robert APSEY
and Harriet VEITCH.
Henry married Elizabeth RINEHEART in Melbourne in 1867 and they
had five children: Edward, Harriet, George, Stephen and Charlotte.
Edward was born in 1868, then Harriet was born in 1870, next came George
in 1874, and Stephen in 1875, all being born in Ararat, the youngest, Charlotte
APSEY was born in 1880 at Pleasant Creek.
Harriet, born in 1870, later married William Morris
WALKEDEN on 10 July 1889 at Stawell in Victoria. William was the
son of James Richard WALKEDEN and Mary
Ann Francis HACKETT. William and Harriet
were known as "uncle Will and aunt Ciss", within the family,
they had no children of their own, though adopted a baby girl in 1904 whom
they named Dorothy Jean WALKEDEN. Dorothy did not marry and died
at Ballarat in 1949.
Harriet APSEY was the registrar of births, deaths and marriages
when they were living at Glenthompson, and William was a fruiterer and
general storekeeper.
Little is known of the other APSEY children other than Stephen,
who was born in 1875, married Effie McKENZIE in 1905 and Charlotte,
who was born in 1880, later married James GOODE.
I have no information on the deaths of Henry or Elizabeth. Harriet APSEY
born in 1870, died at Ballarat in 1956 and her husband, William died
in 1936, also at Ballarat.
