COMPUTERS

It was not until 1985 that I became a little interested in computers, we were living in Canberra at the time. I did a couple of basic "how to turn it on" type courses, but nothing more until 1990 when my son Ron started to "encourage" (?) me to put the family history into some sort of database. Well I did, but that wasn't enough for him, he had to get me interested in communicating via the computer! He started me off using Bulletin Boards and eventually onto the net........ he must be satisfied with my progress as he now leaves me alone!

But what started off as "just a passing thought" is now one of my main passions....... thanks to my son Ron with his encouragement and faith in me! I'll always remember the "F1" calls I'd make to him many times a day........and not once did he complain!

I enjoy spending time on the computer, especially logging onto the internet or adding more information to my database. I do get very frustrated at times when I cannot quite grasp what I am supposed to be doing.......or is it the computer that just does not understand me???

I have enjoyed "playing around" with my web page, trying new backgrounds, stealing 'gifs' from other web sites, (though I call that "gif shopping") and learning to capture and manipulate photos or sketches from other sites too! I could spend hours doing this, unfortunately I also have to work, so time is often limited and I then try to fit in these extra hobbies at the weekends.

My daughter Janine has taught me to scan photos into my database, how to manipulate them, to size them, what resolution to use and how to save them. Though I still have a (very) long way to go.

My husband John, what patience he has with me! I can get very frustrated if the computer won't do what I want it to!  Even when in the middle of a heavy study session, he still finds the time to help and guide me through some difficult patches............... especially when I was learning how to do the webpage!

But I also received a little help from my friends and Geocities, so thanks to everyone for the help I have received over the years!
