Daniel was born in County Clare, Ireland in 1834 to Daniel Murphy FAHEY and his wife Margaret O'DONNELL.
Margaret HOGAN was born in 1835 in County Clare to John HOGAN and Bridget O'KEEFE.
Daniel and Margaret were married at St Mary's Church in Geelong on 25 June 1854 and later had six children: Margaret, Eugene, John, Bridget, Daniel and Ellen.

Their first son, Eugene, was born at Eureka in Ballarat in 1857. He later married Elizabeth GRIFFIN in September 1882. Elizabeth was born in 1858 to James GRIFFIN and Mary McCARTY.
Eugene and Elizabeth had four children: Eugene, Margaret, Helena and Priscilla.
Their first daughter, Margaret, was born on 12 May 1884 at Brown Hill, Victoria and later married William Frederick PERRIAM at Northcote in 1910.
