WHITE FAMILY TREE
Luke WHITE was born in Staffordshire, England around 1770. He became a minister with the church and married Eleanor WOODWARD on April 18 1796 at St Bartholomew's, Wednesbury, Staffordshire. Eleanor was always known as Nellie.
Nellie and Luke had 10 children, all born in the West Bromwich and Wednesbury areas of Staffordshire.
Josiah - the first born - was born in 1798, then Isaiah around 1800, Mary in 1801, Frances in 1803, Sarah in the year 1805, then George in 1807. About 1808 young Hannah was born followed by Luke on 26 February 1813. After Luke, John was born in 1815 and then came Maria in 1818.
Research has not been done on any of the children, other than Isaiah and Luke..........more of which follows.
Luke - their eighth child - was born at West Bromwich in 1813 and baptized at St Bartholomews. He married Sarah AMPHLETT on September 7 1834 at St Thomas Church in Dudley, Worcestershire, England.
Sarah and Luke arrived in Australia in 1850 and moved to the Kyneton area in Victoria. They did not have any children and Sarah died at her home in Lauriston Street, Kyneton at 9.00pm on January 1st 1888.
Not long after, Luke married a family friend - Margaret OMOND - and they continued to live in Kyneton.
Luke died at the age of 90 years at 10.00pm on Christmas Eve in the year 1903 of heart failure and is buried at the Kyneton Cemetery.
Isaiah WHITE, son of Luke and Nellie, was born in 1800, he married Sarah HOLDEN on September 15 1823 at All Saints Church in West Bromwich, Staffordshire.
Sarah was born in 1805 to William and Ann HOLDEN.
Sarah and Isaiah lived at 56 Loxdale Street in West Bromwich according to the 1841 and 1851 census, they had 9 children:
George who was born in 1824, William and Mary Ann in 1828, John in 1830, Ann in 1833. Then along came Eliza in 1835, Hannah in the year 1837, Harriett in 1838 and last was Luke on October 21 1841.
Research has not been done on the children of Sarah and Isaiah, other than info located on John WHITE who married Ellen JONES in 1859 and their last child - Luke - who married Ann Ellis METCALF...........
Luke WHITE - son of Isaiah and Sarah - arrived in Australia on board the CONWAY on November 18 1858. He joined his uncle - Luke WHITE - who was living in Kyneton at the time. Luke (junior) was 17 years of age and worked as a blacksmith.
Luke met Ann METCALF who was living with her family in Kyneton and married her on August 12 1861 at the home of the Baptist Minister - Stewart WILSON.
Luke and Ann had 10 children, all of whom were born in Kyneton..............
Sarah - their first born - was born in 1862, later married George COOK, then after the death of George in 1898, married Benjamin BASSETT. Sarah died at Yea in 1943 of pneumonia.
Their second child was named George WHITE. George married Lydia Emma MAGGS in 1884 and if you scroll down the page you will find quite a lot of information on this marriage. George and Lydia were my paternal great grandparents.
Robert Henry WHITE was the third child of Luke and Ann, he was born in 1864 and died in 1882 at the age of 17 years. He was killed at the Black Hill Races. he was riding the horse Friendless, after passing the first turn, the horse swerved off course. Robert fell off breaking his neck and fracturing his skull.
William WHITE - the fourth child - was born at Kyneton in 1866 and married Hannah HUGHES at North Melbourne in 1890. William died in 1927 and Hannah the following year. They had two children - John and Annie.
Luke - the fifth child of Luke and Ann - died at the age of two years in 1869 by a pot of hot water tipping over him from the stove. According to the inquiry into the death of young Luke, he was beside the wood stove where a pot of boiling water was, his mother moved to the table to get him a piece of bread, when he pulled the pot over him.
Henry was born in 1870 and in 1901 married Jane CARTHEW. After the death of Jane in 1916, he married Eunice HENDERSON and they had two children: Harry and Jean.
The seventh child of Luke and Ann was born in 1872, they named her Harriet Ann. Harriet married Frederick DRINKWATER at Fitzroy in 1892. She died at her home in Moonee Ponds in 1965. Fred and Harriet had 14 children.
Millicent Rose WHITE was born in 1875 and died at the age of 6 of diptheria.
Albert WHITE - the 9th child, married his cousin - Edith Violet METCALF on 28 February 1903 and had three children: Percy, Eric and Edith.
Then there was Ann Holden WHITE - the last child of Luke and Ann - who was born in 1880 and died six years later.
Luke WHITE who was born in 1841 at West Bromwich, died on 9 November 1891. He fell off the ladder whilst painting a house in Pascoe Vale Road, Moonee Ponds.
His wife - Ann - died at 8.00am on 29 April 1888 at the family home in Market Street; Kyneton.
