The Launch of SAI e-Newsletter

Encouraged by the active participation of members in SAI's recent business, social and sports events, your Executive Comittee is taking another bold step ...  the introduction of "Apa Kabar" the SAI eNewsletter.

Our sincere thanks for all your active support. We would also like to recognise the great efforts of all the Past Presidents and Executive Committees that laid the basic groundwork for SAI. Please accept our profound gratitude, thanks and appreciation for all your voluntary contributions to SAI. The current Ex-Co is moving ahead like "never before"  striving hard to bring SAI to greater heights of service to members.  We are proud of the fact that in spite of the crisis, SAI's had remain steadfast in our objectives, to foster better rapport, friendship and community spirit amongst Singaporeans and all others around us in our host country, Indonesia.

Apa Kabar is conceived to keep our growing membership informed of SAI's activities. We delight in sharing the latest news and gossips in town and hope to serve as a effective medium for a productive forum for members. The newsletter will be only as good as we make it to be.  Interactive participation from members is a necessity rather than a luxury. With this in mind, the editorial team of our Apa Kabar promise to work hard to provide readers with informative, entertaining and interesting articles.  Looking forward to have your continuous support and participation!

INDONESIA'S MPR - 7 TO 18 AUGUST 2000

The Indonesian Parliament is scheduled to meet for their annual MPR session from the 7th to the 18th of August 2000. There had been much talk about security and safety conditions in Jakarta during the MPR in the Indonesian media. The SAI had been advised by the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta that there is no need for undue anxiety as the currently the situation is under control. However, it is wise to take the normal and necessary precautions to avoid visiting the vicinity of the Gedung MPR during the session. It is also wise to contact and keep in touch with the wardens in your respective area and to stay abreast of the any new development that comes up. For further information please visit the Singapore Embassy website at http://www.gov.sg/mfa/jkt/ or contact the embassy at email : denpasar@pacific.net.id or contact:

Message from the SAI President

Dear Members,

It gives me great pleasure to present you our first issue of e-NewsLetter. It is particularly so because communications with all our members in SAI has always been a basic problem &. that seems unusual in this modern era of IT.

With the strong support and encouragement from all of you, the current Executive Committee has successfully established and updated a relatively accurate database of SAI members. With the help of this database, we expect communication to improve. Nonetheless, maintaining the database is an on-going process and your help in keeping us updated in case of any changes to your particulars is crucial to the effectiveness of our communication efforts.

This e-NewsLetter is an additional communication tool, not just for the Committee to dispense information, but also as a means for members to liaise amongst members. More importantly, it also serves as a vehicle for feedback from you.

In the past ten months of service, the Executive Committee has organized several golf games/competitions, end-of-month gatherings, business luncheon talks, family karaoke, and participated in various dialog meetings with government ministers and officers. In the coming month, National Day Celebration activities will be our main focus. Certainly, there will be a lot more activities planned in future.

It is important to know that the Executive Committee comprises of volunteers from SAI and all of them have their own businesses and professions to attend to. These volunteers are contributing their time and effort to serve fellow Singaporeans/members out of kindness, goodwill and community spirit. I must add, free of charge.... a kind of SAI national service. As such, your contribution and support is very much needed. With the introduction of this e-NewsLetter, we hope to hear from more SAI members and look forward to your greater involvement in the association.

Finally, this e-NewsLetter is very much the good work of Mr. Augustine Goh, our General Secretary. Congratulations to Gus and to all who have put in effort to make it possible &.. and to ensure its continuous success.

Sincerely

Ow Fook Moh
President, Singapore Association in Indonesia

Mail Box  - a note from the editor

We welcome and encourage any critic, comment and/or suggestion that will help this newletter and SAI improve our activities and programmes for members. SAI is strictly a social non-profit organisation dedicated to the development and advancement of promoting a friendly, caring, civic and active Singapore community in Indonesia based on strong moral and family values.  Although many of you have had criticism about SAI, their past and present Ex-Co, the objectives I mentioned is still relevant.  Managed by a team of volunteers from the Singaporean community in Indonesia who not only devote their time and efforts, but sometimes money too.  All done for the benefit of the Singaporean community and other SAI members in Indonesia; and these volunteers do it for free. If you want to be involved to shape and enhance SAI's activity you are most welcome to contribute and volunteer to help the SAI Ex-Co manage our association. Your involvement would be more productive in helping shape and mould SAI to deliver the benefits that you would like to see, as opposed to complaining and crtitising the Ex-Co from the sidelines.

In September 2000, we will be electing a new Executive Committee and also amending the SAI constitution to build a better and more effective Singapore Association in Indonesia.  It is the hope and spirit of all past and present Executive Committee that SAI can be rejuvenated with much more participation from members towards the goals and aims that I mentioned above. So if you know of anyone who can make SAI better for all of us, nominate him or her for the next Executive Committee Member. More importantly, come and participate in SAI's Annual General Meeting at the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore on the 3rd of September 2000 at 11.00 A.M.  Besides a free lunch, you will also get to choose the people you feel is capable to make SAI a better association for you.

In conclusion, I hope this newsletter will improve with time and be beneficial to members as a source for information and a medium to generate interactive communication amongst members of SAI.  It takes two hands to clap, we are here to try and make it worthwhile for all of you, the rest is up to you, the SAI members.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to greater and continuous participation from you.

Best Regards
Editor - Augustine Goh
