The SAI is a social entity that creates awareness and provides opportunity for Singaporeans working in Indonesia to get together through activities, promote friendship and the spirit of enterprise. Our former Membership Secretary, Ms Phoebe Yang was asked to create a logo to reflect this objective. She did it with a touch of finesse and the SAI logo was unveiled on 15 January 1994 at the "Singapore Nite".
"S" is the abbreviation for Singapore. It is specially written in a dynamic script to imply the entrepreneur spirit spreading abroad. "i" is the abbreviation for Indonesia. It is written in lower case as the separation in i represents the beautiful archipelago. The link between Singapore and Indonesia is graphically represented by a pair of black lines which forms the corner of the logo. "A" is the abbreviation for Association which exists quietly in the centre to bind all this together. The colour is chosen based on the common colour of both the flags of Singapore and Indonesia. The significance for this colour remains the same as that for our flag. Last but not least, the word "Singapore" is positioned for balance to the whole logo and also has its far reaching implication of always being the country we can lean on! |
PROFILE OF THE SAI The Singapore Association in Indonesia (SAI) was formed in 1991 with the aim of creating awareness and opportunities for Singaporeans working in Indonesia to get together through activities, promote friendship and the spirit of enterprises. The honorary patron of SAI is the Singapore Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Edward Lee. ![]() To keep in touch with members, the SAI publishes a quarterly newsletter, the S-Link. Articles include reviews of past events, news of future activities and important announcements. There is a section on news from back home where extracts from MITA's and SIF’s overseas periodicals are included. This section updates members on key developments back home like new tax rulings, updates on education, revised housing regulations, CPF, national service, etc. There is also a business update on the local Indonesian scene - latest government regulations, tax revisions, corporate laws, and local news of interest to expat Singaporeans. MONTHLY GET-TOGETHER Just so Singaporeans can network regularly, the SAI has arranged for monthly gatherings during every last Thursday of the month. The present venue is at the Kelts, Gran Melia Jakarta. Members are informed of any change of the the meeting place by flyers. Between 40 to 80 Singaporeans and friends turn up at the gathering on each occasion for social and business networking. SOCIAL & RECREATION The social activities include: * Family Day: An outing to hillside resorts with a day of fun-filled activities to enhance family togetherness. * National Day Celebrations: Luncheon and family activities with entertainment for the children. * Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Deepavali Get-Together: To create a Singapore atmosphere during the festive seasons. * Karaoke Nites: Organised quarterly for die-hard Karaoke fans. * Monthly Golf Meet: Organised at a different golf course each month. * "Singapore Nite" The premier event in the SAI calendar. BUSINESS SEMINARS The SAI has embarked on a new phase to make the Association a business forum for members and associates by organising a series of business luncheon talks to provide opportunities for business networking. The seminars have so far been very successful and the speakers invited for the talks are prominent figures in Indonesia. The topics include: * "Singapore-Indonesia Joint-Ventures: What To Look Out For" * "Project Financing - The Pitfalls" * "Privatisation and Business Opportunities in Infrastructure Development" * "Capital Market" * "Indonesian Economy - the months ahead" HELPING THE LESS FORTUNATE The SAI did its part for charity when it participated in the HeartStrings project organised by the Community Chest of Singapore. The amount collected was forwarded to the ComChest through the SIF. The message that the SAI is putting across is that though Singaporeans may be working overseas, their hearts are still back home and they do care for their less fortunate countrymen. The SAI also does its bit for the local charity when it organised "The Singapore Golf Meet" towards the end of last year. All the extras from the proceeds of the meet was donated to the Yayasan Amal Mulia that supports orphans and handicapped children FRIENDS OF SAI (FOS) The "Friend of SAI" is a fund raising project that enables SAI to plan a full calendar of events and activities for the coming year. It is also to get Singaporeans working in Indonesia to promote the "Singapore spirit" both in the social and business fronts. The SAI targets up to 8 companies each year to be invited for the "Friends of SAI" project. Companies that make a donation to the SAI become immediately the "Friend of SAI" for that year. These FOS shall be invited as special guests to events and functions organised by the SAI. The FOS are also given spaces in the association’s newsletter to advertise their products & services, launchings & promotions or staff recruitment. SAI’s ROLE The SAI’s role is a very important one in bringing together not only Singaporeans working in Indonesia but also in creating opportunities for Singaporean businessmen and professionals to meet their Indonesian counterparts. The SAI is working towards adding more meaningful activities to take on this role. And whilst all this is going on, SAI would like to see more Singapore companies operating in Indonesia coming forward to support the Association financially. Without the funds, our enthusiastic plans will not materialise. |
