Books
on Tiels
While Pacific Crest and your fellow 'tiel owners online offer a wealth
of useful information on the basics of cockatiel care (or at least we
like to think so), a good book can be invaluable. Here are some suggestions.

The
Complete Book of Cockatiels by Diane Grindol.
Most of you probably don't plan on buying a library of 'tiel books.
But owning at least one book would be helpful in the care of your cockatiel.
And this should be it. The Complete Book of Cockatiels makes the scientific
research from the UC Davis veterinary school's cockatiel colony readily
accessible, and incorporates essential information for new owners and
breeders.
The book's written style is engaging and fresh, while its photographs
are of superb quality (often demonstrating step-by-step procedures such
as wing and nail clipping). An expansive hardcover volume, its topics
include choosing a bird, choosing a veterinarian, nutrition and feeding,
water, daily care, enclosure design and placement, socialization and
play, treats, toys, training, safety concerns, medical emergencies,
communication and behavior, breeding, and a selection of stories from
cockatiel owners. This excellent book's title is well deserved.
Cockatiels!
Pets-Breeding-Showing by Nancy A. Reed and Rainer R. Erhart
(Editor).
Beyond the world of cockatiel care is their breeding. This book does
a commendable job of covering expert techniques involved with breeding
and showing 'tiels. However, it is less oriented toward beginning cockatiel
owners than other books; some people find its style too dry and technical.
It would be improved by some updating, but some of its readers, generally
intermediate-advanced owners, still consider it indispensible to its
subject.

and addresses considerations related to cages, nuttrition, health, and
safety.
