A

ageless bronze - the decorator color released in 1991 on the "Hyksos" Arabian Commerative Edition model.
AHSA - American Horse Show Association
apricot dun - the lightest shade of red dun characterized by a very pale body color
AQHA - American Quarter Horse Association
ASB - American Saddlebred
ASBW - American Saddlebred Weanling mold (Burnt Sienna)
ASHF - Action Stock Horse Foal mold

B

bay - a horse with a reddish brown coat and black mane, tail, and points. Note: Many original finish models lack black legs, and although they are called bay, they are not "true bays".
BF/Bfest - Breyerfest; an annual model horse collector's convention held in Lexington, Kentucky at the end of July.
BHR - Black Horse Ranch; a model horse vendor that also sells their own line of resin models.
black - a horse whose entire coat, mane, and tail is black with the exception of white markings.
Breyer - the division of Reeves International that creates animal figurines (mainly horses) from cellulose acetate (and ABS) and the accompanying accessories.
buckskin - a golden/yellow coat with a black mane, tail, and points; genetically a result of a single dilution gene on the bay base coat.

C

CAF - Classic Arabian Foal
CAM - Classic Arabian Mare
CAS - Classic Arabian Stallion
CE - Commemorative Edition; a single piece produced annually and limited in number
Chalky - a Breyer model with a white base coat that appears chalky in color. Chalkies were usually molded out of colored plastic (which is why they had to have a white base coat).
champagne - a classification of dilute colors distinct from the dun groupings. Champagne horses have pinkish or light brown skin and amber eyes and can be divided into: amber champagne, gold champagne, and ivory champagne.
chukkar - one of the 7-1/2 minute periods of play in a polo match.
Classic - the second largest Breyer scale
CLEO - the show that didn't, this was supposed to be a rather large live show in central NY that never happened due to many unforeseen problems, several SRs were to be made for it including a gray Hagen-Renaker Girl W/ Pony (without girl).
CM - a customized model
colt - a male horse under the age of four years.
Copenhagen - dappled light blue; one of the orginal four Breyer decorator colors released in the 1960s.
CWP - Cantering Welsh Pony mold (Plain Pixie/Tara/Sassafras)

D

dam - a mother
decorator - any of the unrealistic model colors produced by Breyer mainly in the 1960s. Decorartor colors include: ageless bronze, copenhagen, florentine, gold charm, wedgewood, and silver filigree.
Disc - discontinued; no longer in production

FAF - Family Arabian Foal mold (Julian)
FAM - Family Arabian Mare (Galena)
FAS - Family Arabian Stallion (Devil Wind)
FEI - Federation Equestre Internationale (International Equestrian Federation).
filly - a female horse under the age of four.
Florentine - dappled metallic gold with white mane and tail; one of the original decorator colors released in the 1960s.
foal - a baby horse

G

gelding - a castrated/altered male horse.
Glossy - model with an *extremely* shiny finish (not to be confused with semi-gloss)
Gold Charm - a solid metallic gold decorator color (usually with white mane and tail); one of the original four Breyer decorator colors released in the 1960s.

H

Hagen-Renaker - a line of ceramic figurines which includes horses.
Hartland - another brand of models similar to Breyers.
hinney - a hybrid resulting from the breeding of a female donkey (jennet) and a male horse (stallion).

I

IMC - Iron Metal Chief; a breyer Missouri Fox Trotter mold sculpted by Kathleen Moody.

J

jack - a male donkey.
JAH - Just About Horses; the official publication of Breyer.
Jamboree - a model horse collector's convention second to Breyerfest in size; held in California annually in August.
jennet - a female donkey.
jenny - a jennet or female donkey.
john - a castrated/gelded male donkey or mule.

K

L

LB - Little Bit; the Breyer Scale that falls between Stablemate and Classic.
LE - Limited Edition; Breyer has a produced an annual limited edition since 1987.
LP - Lady Phase; a Breyer stock horse mold.
LSASE - Long Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope; this usually means a business-sized envelope (as opposed to smaller envelopes used for stationary, etc.).
LSQ - live show quality; high enough quality to be shown at a model horse exhibition; a very subjective term.

M

mare - a female horse or pony that is four years of age or older.
matte - the most common finish on Breyer models; "matte" models may appear anywhere from dull to satiny.
m & t - mane and tail
MIB - mint in box; practically flawless
molly - a female mule. Note: The vast majority of mules can not have foals!
mule - a hybrid resulting from the breeding of a male donkey (jack) and a female horse (mare). Nearly all mules are sterile (with a few RARE exceptions).

N

NAMHSA - North American Model Horse Show Association; the organization through which models qualify for NAN.
NAN - North American Nationals; a national show that alternates between Kentucky and California where qualified model horses compete.
NIB - new in box; still fastened to box (for newer models) or never removed.

O

OF - original factory finish; a model in its original condition from a mass-producing factory.

P

PA - Pedigree Assignment; "model horse breeding".
PA - Proud Arabian
palomino - a golden/yellow coat with a white mane and tail; genetically a result of a single dilution gene on the chestnut base coat.
PAF - Proud Arabian Foal
paint - a pinto horse of STOCK HORSE breeding.
PAM - Proud Arabian Mare
PAS - Proud Arabian Stallion
Peter Stone - a former employee of Breyer who now has his own line of [Peter Stone] models.
piebald - a black and white pinto/paint horse.
pinto - a horse with large patches of white and another color. See: PAINT
PSQ - photo show quality; usually of slightly lesser quality than LSQ.
points - usually refers to the lower legs, eartips, muzzle, mane, and tail especially when speaking of color.

Q

QH - Quarter Horse
QVC/Q2 - cable shopping networks that occasionally offer Breyer Special Runs for sale.

R

RH - Repainted and Haired
roan - a mixture of white and colored hairs usually with dark points. Note: Original finish modelsa that are "roan" usually are of pale body color with darker faces and points.
RRH - Repainted, Remade, and Haired

S

SAE - self-addressed envelope minus the stamp.
SASE - self-addressed, stamped envelope. Always send a SASE if you need a response!
SB - standardbred
semi-gloss - a shiny model that is not considered a glossy
S/D - sire/dam; a horse's parents.
SHF - Stock Horse Foal
silver filigree - the metallic dappled silver (w/ white mane and tail) Decorator color released in 1993 on the Breyer Proud Arabian Mare special run.
sire - a father
SHM - Stock Horse Mare
SHS - Stock Horse Stallion
SM - Stablemate
special run - a model produced for a certain event or business that is not part of the regular line.
SR - special run
SSHF - Standing Stock Horse Foal
stallion - a male, uncastrated horse over the age of 4 years.

T

TB - Thorougbred
test color - a one-of-a-kind original finish model produced by the factory as a way of trying out different colors and painting techniques. Several test color pieces are auctioned off annually at Breyerfest for rather large sums of money.
traditional - the largest and most common Breyer models
TU - touched up; a model that has added markings or whose rubs have been painted and thus can no longer be consider original finish.
TWH - Tennesee Walking Horse/Tennessee Walker.

W

warmblood - technically any "breed" that developed from a mixture of "hot" blood (Arabian, Thoroughbred, etc.) and "cold" blood (draft breeds); today it usually refers to many of the sport horses commonly seen performing in dressage, eventing, jumping, etc. Examples: Dutch Warmblood, Trakehner, Hanoverian, etc.
watch eye - a blue eye.
WB - warmblood
Wedgewood Blue - solid light blue usually with white mane/tail; one of the original four Breyer Decorator colors released in the 1960s. woodgrain - a model painted to look like it is made of wood.
