Here's the happy ending story of Lexus & Blue:
Growing up in the Lockport area, I have known many people who have adopted
wonderful animals from the TLC Shelter. I have always heard such great
things about the quality of animals available for adoption, the care they
recieve and the care in connecting the perfect pet to the perfect family.
On August 21, 2001 I was on business in Orland Park, my appointment ended
early and decided to stop by TLC. My husband Bob and I had been discussing
getting a dog and with everything I had heard I decided to see what animals
they had available. I arrived right about the time they opened the doors
for the day and I was the first one in. When I walked into the dog room, in
the first cage on my right was an adorable 2 yr old Border Collie named
Lexus. That was it I looked no farther. I immediately called my husband
and him bring our daughters over to see if everyone got along. Everything
was great! The first thing our two year old did was throw her arms around
Lexus' neck, and the dog was very receptive--she just sat there. Then my
5yr old looked at Lexus and said "Oh Mommy, This is going to be our dog!
Look she has one brown eye like me and one blue eye like Randi." Since that
day Lexus has been a part of our life. My husband and I often think "How
could someone give this dog away??". She has been great. She came to us
completely trained and housebroken. She is such a smart and wonderful dog
that I can't imagine being without her. She has definitely been an addition
to our lives and she is loved so much. Lexus is such a smart girl that she
needs to be busy. She does have a touch of separation anxiety, and that
takes us to the 2nd part of this story...
On Friday May 31, 2002 we were reading the Herald News and discovered that
TLC had a website. Later that evening we pulled up the site and saw that
there was a 4 yr old Weimaraner named Blue, who was good with kids,
available for adoption. We took the weekend to do a little research on the
breed and found out that he may just fit in our family. On Tuesday June
4th, we loaded everyone up in out Explorer and headed out from Joliet to
Homer Glen. We got there about a half hour early and walked around to see
if he was still there. We found him! He seemed like a great dog, however
he was still in his cage. The girls walked around the building and
commented on how beautiful of a dog he was. While we were waiting for the
shelter to open, one of the employees brought Blue around front to walk him.
The girls got so excited to see him out of the cage. After Blue got a
little exercise, and judging by the girls excitement to see him out of the
cage, the employee brought him over to visit with us. While full of energy
and excitement to see us, we could instantly see that he was a very happy
good boy! He was a gentleman with our girls and everything seemed ok with
Lexus as well. After spending about 30-45min with him we made the decision
to make him a permanent part of the family. We could tell he was well loved
by his previous owner. His teeth, ears, etc were well taken care of and he
had obviously been to obedience school. We have had Blue now for over a
week and are very pleased with him. He has made an excellent addition to
our family and a great new friend for Lexus.
Thank you TLC for taking such care and a real interest in your animals. It
is obvious that each one of you really care about placing the right animal
with the right family!!
Sincerely,
Amy M Sharp
