Linus the Bad Luck Dog
Linus was a sweet little dog, his only problem was that he had a streak of very bad luck going for him. To begin with, the house he had thought of as home had burned down. You can see in the picture of Linus that he did not get away unscathed, he did suffer some burns on his snout, but at least he got out alive, as did his family members.
Linus thought okay so the house burned down, I still have my "family" so everything will be fine ....wrong. His family did not want him anymore and just left him there with the charred rubble where once the house had stood. A kind neighbor took Linus in but could not keep him so she brought him to the local humane society where Linus had hoped someone would adopt him, but nobody wanted the little dog with the burns on his nose. But Linus still had hope of finding a forever home, when he got the chance to be transported to TLC. The area Linus came from was very rural and adoptions are not as good as they are in our area, where it was hoped he would have a better chance for adoption.
Being brought to TLC was not the end of Linus's problems, we discovered Linus had heartworm. It seemed if it weren't for bad luck Linus would not have had any luck at all!
Treating a dog for heartworm is quite costly, but thankfully we had the Bertha fund to fall back on. Linus was treated and within a short time was ready for adoption. Linus the bad luck dog, was given a second chance, and found a wonderful family to adopt him.

Bertha Fund Saves More Lives
If it were not for the Bertha Fund, Linus would not have known a happy ending, nor would Buster Brown, Lucy, Chyna, Cheryl, or Bobbie. Five more dogs brought to TLC recently, tested positive for heartworm. Although treatment is expensive, we knew the dogs needed to be treated immediately before their conditions worsened, left untreated all these dogs would have died a horrible death.

We just want to thank all of you on behalf of Buster Brown, Lucy, Chyna, Cheryl, Bobbie and of course little Linus. Your donations to the Bertha Fund that saved their lives, without your help these dogs would have faced certain death, their futures were made possible because you cared. We thought you would like to see the faces of the dogs you helped save ......and with your gift to the Bertha Fund we will save even more!

Sent in
This was sent to us by Sharry Cernuda for you to enjoy, it is an ode to animals rescuers everywhere.....

I looked in all the cages in the shelter. The castoffs of human society. I saw in their eyes love, hope fear, and dread, sadness and betrayal, and I was angry. "God", I said, "This is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then spoke softly, "I have done something", was the reply. "I created you."

Happy Ending for Boots
We adopted a kitty from the TLC Animal Shelter August 10th 2004. We named the kitty Boots. He is a very pretty kitty with subtle striping and circles on each of his sides.
Boots is very friendly and loves to play. He likes crawling into boxes to play peek a boo. He also enjoys it when I build little ěcavesî with pillows which he loves to explore. Always, curious, Boots loves to watch the bath water swirl down the drain, and also likes to play with the water in his water dish. His favorite toy is a terry cloth fish that he carries around with him most of the time. every time we go to the freezer he comes running for a piece of ice to play with and lick. When it finally melts, he is so funny because he canít figure out what happened to it.
Boots wakes me up every morning by crawling on top of me and licking my hands. He is very affectionate and loves to be petted. Believe it or not he loves to watch Animal Planet on television! My entire family thinks he is a very precious kitty, and personally, I can say he really enriches my life.
