Candles, telescopes and a megaphone oh my! ![]() "Shorty, I leave you in charge for a few hours and Pandemonium takes over!" No, it wasn't Pandemonium that took over, it was Shorty! Thanks Tiny for adding your two cents, I needed that! Let me explain..... "Shorty, what you are doing with all of this stuff?" Uhoh that's our cue to leave. "Sam! Tiny! Where do you two think you're going? I don't think Shorty managed this all by himself, I think you were his cohorts in crime. Both of you look like the cat that swallowed the canary." What canary, I didn't see any canary? "Don't try to change the subject, you know very well what I mean. I leave you alone for a few hours to get some things done, and what do I come back to? Boxes of candles, boxes of food bowls, a megaphone, and if that weren't enough, while I'm carrying in a couple of packages, I bump into a delivery man from a rental company carrying in a couple of telescopes! I ask him what is he's doing, and he tells me, that someone from TLC placed an order to rent a couple of telescopes. I tell him that he must be mistaken, so he proceeds to ask what the address is, and I tell him 13016 West 151st. Street. He checks his sheet and yes, I have the right place, as I was heading into the office to set my packages down. When I come back out I see two telescopes smack dab in the middle of the room, but no delivery man! I rush out the door waving my arms wildly as I try to catch the drivers attention as I'm shouting WAIT, WAIT, as I watch the truck drive down the road. This is all I needed, as if I'm not stressed out enough, what in the world are we going to use two telescopes for? Will someone please explain what is going on here?" I knew you were feeling a little overwhelmed with things you had to get done, so Tiny, Sam and I took it upon ourselves to help you out by getting some of the things that will needed for the Cosmic Candlelight Bowl, that is being held February 15th. "That's nice guys, but what do any of these things have to do with the Cosmic Candlelight Bowl?" Well I'll admit at first it sounded like a rather odd fundraiser, and I doubted much money could be raised by having people observe the stars, but after finding out the event would include dinner, and several silent auctions, I thought it just might work, and we wanted to pitch in and help. "Shorty, what in the world are you talking about, this event has nothing to do with stargazing. We won't need telescopes!" No Telescopes? But you said it was going to be a cosmic event. "Yes but...." And you also said it would be held by candlelight so I went out and got all of these candles. "Okay I understand where you might have gotten that idea, but whats with all of these bowls?" Well purrrrrsonally I thought plates would've been better to serve guests their food on, but the name of the event would not have the same ring, 'Cosmic Candlelight Plate' so bowls it was. "Shorty, I don't know whether to laugh or cry." We were only trying to help! "I know you meant well guys and I appreciate it. Anyway, I needed a good laugh. Now let me explain what a Cosmic Candlelight Bowl is. For $25.00 a person it's a night of dinner, fun, and bowling with a twist thats sure to make everyone laugh and have a great time while raising money to help the animals. By the way why did you get that megaphone?" Ok I'll show you. BUY YOUR COSMIC CANDLELIGHT BOWL TICKETS HERE! "Sorry I asked, I don't think my ears will ever be the same!" Uhoh gotta run, I think I hear the sound of the can-opener! I hope my ears picked up before the scent of food got to Sam's nose, because when it comes to food she is a canine Hoover! Love, Shorty P.S. We forgot to include April 1st TLC's 29th Anniversary on the events calendar. Now thats really something to celebrate! Where's the cake? "Shorty!" If dogs could write letters to God ![]() Dear God, When my family eats dinner they always bless their food, but they never bless mine, so I've been wagging my tail extra fast when they fill my bowl. Have you noticed my own blessing? Dear God, Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize? Dear God, When we get to Heaven, can we sit on your couch, or is it the same old story? Dear God, If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him is he still a bad dog? Dear God, Are there dogs on other planets, or are we alone? I have been howling at the moon an d stars for a long time, but all I ever hear back is the beagle across the street. Dear God, The new terrier I live with just peed on the Oriental rug and I have a feeling my family might blame me 'cuz they think I'm jealous of the stupid dog. Since they have no sense of smell, how can I convince them I'm innocent? Dear God, If we come back as humans is that good or bad? VIP's reach out to others in the community ![]() This is what Kristen Salinas the Director at Shady Oak had to say: A special partnership between Shady Oaks and nearby TLC Animal Shelter provides an opportunity for residents to interact with loving friends. At least once a week, TLC volunteers and gentle affectionate cats and dogs visit Shady Oaks as part of TLC's community-outreach program. "Residents love the visits, Salinas says, on Thursday afternoons when Kathy Kanak and her Shelty, Levi Jean, come to visit." Salinas says the residents especially appreciate the albums made of the residents, full of photos of Levi giving hugs and sloppy kisses at Shady Oaks. The feedback all the VIP Members have given us has been very positive, and you have to agree by looking at the picture of Levi Jean giving one of the residents a kiss, that the visits are equally enjoyable for our furry VIP members. Here's the story of Buck, another happy ending ![]() It didn't take long before we spotted the "perfect" dog for our family. He didn't have a name, since he had been a stray, but his eyes looked so gentle we were confident that this was the one. When we began asking questions abou the dog, we were informed that he had been in an accident. We could scrapes and wounds and were told his front leg had to be put back into the socket. When they brought the sad looking black dog out to meet us, his tail was between his legs and he didn't want to walk. We were also informed that he had been found on the road, and on the way to the shelter he rested his chin on the rescuers shoulder. After hearing all that and spending time with him, we knew he had a wonderful disposition, and we had to adopt him. On our way home with our new addition, we tried saying various names to see if the dog would respond. One particular name out of many made his head turn and his ears perk up. That name was Buck. After 4 weeks in his new home, Buck no longer was scared and "practiced" wagging his tail quite often, and now he wags it so fast, it is a wonder it stays on him! We can now say with confidence that he has completed our family. The cats have accepted him and our three year old son and Buck are the best of friends. Buck has healed nicely and is now 100%. He is a very playful dog that loves chasing a tennis ball. We know without a doubt that Buck really appreciates that he has been adopted. He is very protective, and when he looks at you, its like his eyes are saying "thanks, I owe you one." He then proceeds to give, wet sloppy kisses on your face. We would like to thank all the people involved in Buck's rescue and also to everyone at TLC. Les, Dianne, and Lester Sander P.S. Buck thanks everyone too!!!!!
