Spartanburg County, South Carolina. This book deals most specifically with
the line of Richard/Richard/John, whose descendants are largely found residing in Spartanburg and surrounding
counties in South Carolina, and also in Alabama, and Texas. The book includes over 30 pages of
photographs. These are very nice cloth bound Library quality books, royal
blue with gold lettering. This book

INFORMATION CHAPTER ONE Chapter
One deals with William McChesney, the early settler of Pennsylvania, and whom
is believed to have been the father of Richard Chesney, whom left
Pennsylvania and settled in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The locations are Dauphin, and York
Counties in Pennsylvania. Names of
allied families are Bell, Fulton, Wilson, and
Wallace. CHAPTER TWO Chapter
Two begins on page eleven, and documents the family of Richard and Jane Young
Chesney, early Spartanburg County, south Carolina settlers. It includes information about the Young
family, also of York county, Pennsylvania, and the 96th District of South
Carolina, and the suspected connection between them and Jane Young Chesney. CHAPTER THREE Chapter
Three begins on page 21, documenting
the families of the children of Richard Jr. and Hester Chesney, except for
their son John. Allied family surnames are Smiths, from Monroe
County, Georgia. Alexanders from
Spartanburg County, South Carolina, and Calhoun County, Alabama. Powers,
associated with Spartanburg, and Pickens Counties in South Carolina.
Includes the line of their son, Nathaniel Richard Chesney, mainly found in
Knoxville County, Tennessee. Other
allied family names include, Reeves, Catrell, Castleberry, Couch, Dean, Gentry, Huffaker, Mauldin, Sowder, Tillett. The line of John Chesney, son of Richard
and Hester Chesney, is not included in this chapter, but will be found in the
next. CHAPTER FOUR Chapter
Four begins on page 97, regarding the family of John and Rebecca Foster
Chesney. Includes genealogy of all
their children, except William Alexander, which is included in the next
chapter. Includes the allied families
of Cash, Chumley, Dost, Easler, Hawkins, Littlefield, McAbee, Sagle, Simmons,
Sprouse, Stephens, and West. The
locations are mainly Spartanburg and Cherokee counties in South Carolina. CHAPTER FIVE Chapter
Five begins on page 131, and documents the family of William and Phoebe
Chesney, of Cherokee County, Alabama.
Other locations are Spartanburg County, South Carolina, Lincoln
County, Tennessee, and Calhoun County, Alabama. The genealogy and history of
descendants of several of the children of William and Phoebe are included in
this chapter, while some other of their children have their own separate
chapters, making up the rest of the book.
The children’s histories included in this chapter are; Margaret born 1849 who married James T.
Murdock in Etowah County, Alabama, and
settled in Hopkins County, Texas.
Associated name is Smith. Frances
Fanny born 1857, married Wiley Wiseman in Lincoln County, Tennessee, and
lived her life out there. John born in 1860, married Julia “Lemma” Pyle in
Fannin County, Texas, lived also in
Wichita County, Texas.
Associated name is Lascelles. CHAPTER SIX Chapter
six begins on page 143, documenting the family of Adaline Chesney, child of
William and Phoebe Chesney of Chapter five, who married Isaac Newton Leeth in
Etowah County, Alabama. Allied names
are Daniel, Driggers, Snow, Thomas and Whitt.
Locations are Etowah and
Marshall Counties in Alabama. CHAPTER SEVEN Chapter
Seven begins on page 153 and documents the family of William and Phoebe Chesney’s son, William
Alexander Chesney. William Alexander
Chesney married Leah Jane Cashion in 1867 in Lincoln County, Tennessee, then
moved to Fannin County, Texas, where William died in 1911. Names of allied families include, Bachman,
Barnett, Dotson, Duncan, Eastman,
Henry, Huff, Kee, Mayner, Montgomery, Orcutt,
Payne, Phares, Powell, Redding, Reddy, Rogers, Shackleford,
Smith, Stout, Templeton, , Thrasher, Woodall. Locations
include Fannin, Hunt, Wilbarger, Wichita, Jack, Gregg, El Paso, Smith, Bexar,
Tom Green, Lamar, Dallas, Grayson, Ward and other many counties in Texas, and
Seminole and many other counties in Oklahoma. CHAPTER EIGHT Chapter
Eight begins on page 193, and documents the son of William and Phoebe
Chesney, Robert Taylor Chesney, Robert married Laura Gilbert in 1885 in
Parker County, Texas. Allied names
include Armes, Bradshaw, Brown,
Crosby, Dodson, Dubose, Ellis, George,
Guereca, Hobbs, Holman. Jester, Oldham, Price, Sasser, Sitz, and Swift,
Wilson, Locations
include Palo Pinto, Val Verde, Parker, Hockley, Eastland, Tarrant, Baylor, El
Paso, and Collin Counties in Texas. CHAPTER NINE Chapter
nine begins on page 209, and documents the family of William Phoebe Chesney’s
daughter, Sarah Sallie, who married Isaac Pearson Cummings in 1875 in Etowah
county, Alabama. Isaac and Sarah moved to Polk County, Arkanasa, where they
raised their family, and both lived
out their lives. Names of allied

Ten begins on page 219 and outlines the paternal ancestry of Leah Jane
Cashion, the wife of William Alexander Chesney, going back to James Cashion

include Shelton, Walker, Norman, and Benson.
